What health insurance company do I think is the worst?

Posted by valmg under Business

Hands down the answer here is Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Until last month I had health insurance through them and I was never thrilled with the service (or lack thereof) that I received. I have been doing medical billing for a while now and if there’s one company that stands out apart from the others it’s Horizon. I feel they have poor customer service, poor quality, poor training of new hires, poor handling of incorrectly processed claims, poor hold times, poor rate of solutions vs problems, poor processing of claims, poor correspondence and poor listening skills. Can you tell that I think they really stink? Do you like your insurance carrier? For any billers out there, is there one company more than any other that you really hate to work with?

New York State has a huge state-sponsored health care system and it is DISASTROUS. I am grateful for the benefits–when I can get them–but the system is so bureaucratic and filled with such fraud that it is mind-numbing. Plus, doctors hate to work with the system, so they are either leaving the state for better work, or not accepting it. Waiting times are outrageous– my sons have to schedule a dental cleaning EIGHT MONTHS in advance. And if they are sick that day… we wait another half year.

I shudder at the thought of national health care system. The state-wide system is a nightmare.

Hi Mrs Mecomber. Since I’ve become a biller I have seen some crazy things. NJ has a low income program that a certain segment of the population around here really abuses and it makes me sick. If we could get a state or national system in place that was run properly it wouldn’t frighten me, but I doubt we’ll ever get to that point.

I have health insurance with Blue cross in Michigan. I don’t mind it as right now it’s with my mom so I don’t pay for it. I do think that having a huge deductible just because I’m diabetic stinks, but other then that I’m happy with it.

I agree that if we do have nationwide health care we need to do it right and make it easy to use, but hard to scam.

Holly - Thanks for visiting. Is the deductible just on you because you’re a diabetic or is that the way that policy is?

At least you didn’t say the insurance company I work for! I agree, something needs to be done with the healthcare system. I agree the insurane companies have issues. Especially Horizon.
