What is winter itch?
My hubby’s always itching and scratching his legs in the winter. It drives me crazy because it’s usually at night that it’s the worst. I decided to do a little bit of reading about winter itch to see what could be done to combat it. Here’s what I learned.
Winter itch is what it’s called when itchiness and dryness occur, sometimes with a rash, and lines and cracks start appearing in the skin. Contributing factors include the dry air of indoor heating, dehydration from not drinking enough and the loss of natural skin oils from longer or more frequent bathing. Suggestions to prevent or lessen the discomfort of winter itch include bathing less, using a mild soap, using a moisturizer after bathing while your skin is still damp, applying moisturizer during the day, turning down the heat, using a humidifier and drinking more water.
