Yet another in a long line of social sites is Jobvana. The site is free to join and provides small businesses and freelance employees the opportunity to market themselves and their businesses to others. People browsing the site can search within categories or a directory. There are also pages limited by geographical area called city pages. The site reminds me of cragislist meets careerbuilder meets facebook. I found the city pages misleading. I realize not all cities could be listed but there are cities with no cities in them. I don’t really get the site or what’s supposed to make it better than other better organized sites.

I have been on the internet for many years and I’ve seen this typed for most of them. I’ve always wondered exactly what it meant and this week I decided to find out. I’ve always had the thought in my head that it was somehow related to gaming. As it turns out that may or may not be the case, depending on who you believe. Some online agree that it was used in reference to gaming when it started, and that it probably was a shortened way to say “wow, loot”. Other people think the phrase represents the joy a hacker feels when he successfully obtains root access. No matter what you think, it seems that over the years it has lost that meaning and is now just used as a term of excitement or expression of joy. I have no idea why it’s usually shown with a small w and t and zeroes or capital Os. Some people also think it might have started as an acronym for We Owned the Other Team. It isn’t a phrase I use. Do you use it? What does it mean to you?

I’ve always wondered what the difference was between small and large cottage cheese curds, mainly because the taste between the two is so different. Here’s what I found out after reading a few cheese sites. When milk is acidified it becomes solid. Either lactic-acid producing bacteria or acidifiers such as Rennet are added the milk is separated into curds (chunks) and whey (liquid). Curds can be left large or cut to be small depending on how dry or moist the final cottage cheese product is to be and what taste is desired. Large curds tend to be sweeter and less acidic.

I know my vision is bad. Since I was less than ten years old I’ve had to wear glasses or contacts because my vision is much worse than 20/20. I always wondered what 20/20 meant, so this week I looked it up. Normal vision, or acuity, is tested by reading an eye chart at a distance of 20 feet and comparing your vision to what should be seen from that distance by the majority of the population. So if you’re 20 feet back from the chart and see everything clearly your vision is 20/20. If you’re 20 feet back and you see what someone with normal vision sees at 100 feet back then your vision is 20/100. The cutoff to be legally blind is 20/200. If you see at 20 feet back what the average person sees at 10 feet back, then your vision is measured as 20/10 and is better than normal.

At first I thought it was a joke or something but it looks like a real product. The site says that this powder is supposed to absorb sweat and prevent friction. The site also says that it’s made for people that sit a long time and are involved in sports or physical labor. I wonder how they came up with the name?
